A dwarf cultivar, 'Moonfire' bears single flowerheads of yellow-orange petals tinted red at their base around a dark red eye ringed with gold. This contrasts beautifully with its luscious dark bronze foliage.
The almost tropical colour combination makes this Dahlia a definite must for the front of a hot border. A magnet for bees and butterflies, it also makes a superb container plant. It performs best in nutrient-rich, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. In colder areas, lift, dry, and store tubers frost-free once autumn frosts have blackened the foliage. In milder areas, tubers can be left in the ground with the crown protected by a mulch.
