Epimedium 'Beni-kujaku' puts on a spring display of larger, dusky pink flowers with delicate white spurs that really lifts the soul on a cold grey day. As the sepals and petals are about the same length, the flowers appear almost double.
A good choice for adding a splash of early-season colour to a lightly shaded garden area, it needs humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil to thrive. It can tolerate drier conditions, including underplanting beneath trees and shrubs, if given an annual mulch of organic matter. Fresh green foliage follows the flowers, delivering multi-seasonal interest and useful, non-invasive ground cover.
