A colourful twist on a much-loved cottage and gravel garden favourite, the individual flowers of ‘Lavender Lady’ are larger and a gentle lavender hue compared with the initially white, maturing-to-pink blooms of Erigeron karvinskianus. Producing the same effusive display from midsummer far into autumn, it just keeps going — happily flowering in conditions other plants would baulk at. All it needs is a quick trim with scissors to encourage further growth.
Preferring very free-draining soil in full sun, it looks particularly effective in a gravel garden or edging a stone path, and opens up some beautiful new combinations in summer containers. Picture it with Cosmos ‘Antiquity’ and a purple-leaved Heuchera for summer-long colour, or with Verbena officinalis var. grandiflora ‘Bampton’ and Stipa tenuissima for froth and texture.
