Eurybia divaricata — formerly known as Aster divaricatus — is one of the most elegant plants for a shady border. Its dark, near-black wiry stems create a striking contrast with the profusion of white daisy flowers held above in late summer, giving a light, airy quality that few shade-tolerant plants can match.
A superb woodland garden plant, it thrives in dappled or deeper shade and is tolerant of varying soil conditions, making it invaluable in difficult spots beneath trees or along shaded boundaries. Easy to grow and long-lived, it benefits from division every two or three years to keep it vigorous.
