Bold magenta flowers with a distinctive black eye and veining contrast vividly with the young yellow-green foliage.
From the same parental stock as G. ‘Ann Folkard’, ‘Anne Thomson’ shares many of its traits but is neater and far less likely to slouch around your border. Flowering from midsummer right into late autumn — when the foliage turns a rich red — it really packs a punch and will lift a tired bed through the late summer lull. It also makes an excellent container plant for a sunny terrace, and is undemanding in its needs: a moist but well-drained soil in full sun or part shade suits it perfectly.
