A tough, long-flowering cranesbill with a season that stretches from summer into autumn — and even early winter in mild years. The heart-shaped petals are intense cerise, lined with darker veins, and the centre is deep purple, almost black. The lobed mid-green foliage often persists into winter. Hardy to -20°C, it is happy in sun to partial shade in any reasonable soil that does not become waterlogged.
Cut finished flower stems back to the base to encourage repeat flowering. A mulch helps in dry conditions, though if your garden is very dry a slightly shadier spot may suit it better.
Lovely for underplanting roses and deciduous shrubs, it also works well in containers where it will tumble gently over the edges. A great pollinator plant for the front of a border or a wildlife-friendly scheme.
