Dense clusters of large, violet-blue flowers with purple-black veining jostle above mounds of hairy mid-green foliage in early summer — an opulent display that is a sight to behold. In autumn, the foliage turns a glowing red-orange, extending the season of interest well beyond flowering.
Excellent ground cover for the front of a border or gravel garden. Cut back after flowering to encourage a fresh flush of foliage. Unfussy and adaptable — grows well in any reasonably drained soil, in full sun or partial shade.
