A clump-forming herbaceous perennial with finely divided, deep purple-green leaves that are handsome in their own right, even before the flowers appear. Despite its name, ‘Black ‘n White’ is not strictly black and white — the flowers are a soft white veined with lilac, held above foliage that is a deep, brooding purple-green rather than true black. Single white blooms, delicately veined lilac, are produced freely from late spring through to midsummer — a refined combination that works beautifully at the front of a border or in a cottage garden planting.
Easy to grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded position. Fully hardy.
