Lathyrus vernus

Dark green pinnate foliage and charming purple pea-like flowers in spring make Lathyrus vernus a quietly distinctive early-season perennial. Commonly known as Spring Vetchling, it shares the same delicate flowers as its climbing cousins but reaches just 30cm.

Use it to underplant shrubs or bring early colour to the front of borders and beds. It thrives in sun or partial shade in a humus-rich, fertile soil, and is equally at home in containers.
