Leucanthemum × superbum 'Phyllis Smith' is one of the most elegant Shasta daisies available. The Shasta daisy itself was developed in the late 19th century by the American plant breeder Luther Burbank, who named it after the snow-capped Mount Shasta in California. 'Phyllis Smith' is among the finest of its kind — finely cut, spidery pure white petals radiate from a golden yellow centre, creating a light, airy effect quite different from the bolder, broader-petalled forms. It flowers reliably in midsummer on tall, erect stems clothed in narrow dark green foliage.

A superb choice for the middle of a sunny border, it thrives in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil and makes an excellent cut flower. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering, and divide clumps in spring to keep the plant vigorous.
