Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
A compact sport of Ligularia 'Little Rocket', this fully hardy perennial thrives in consistently moist, fertile soil. Partial shade is preferred; it will tolerate some sun if kept consistently moist.
The dramatic foliage is large, deep green and serrated. Chocolatey-brown flower spikes appear from June to July, standing up to 90cm tall and holding masses of rich yellow, star-shaped flowers from tip to base.
Bees, butterflies and other pollinators love the flowers; cutting back spent stems will keep them coming.
Once established, the plant can be divided in spring every few years. 'Bottle Rocket' looks wonderful mass-planted, and teams up well with hostas, ferns, Gunnera, Actaea, Rodgersia, Polemonium, Tricyrtis and Liatris.
A great addition to rain, shade, woodland, bog and pondside gardens — and equally effective in large containers.
