Distinctive flower heads, of bright red narrow petals supported by dark red cradles of bracts, on upright sturdy stems above scented, bronze lance-shaped leaves.
Not exactly shy and retiring, this long flowering Bergamot will certainly pack a punch in a 'hot' planting scheme, but looks just as lovely combined with dark reds, strong blues or whites. As one of its common names 'Bee Balm' suggests, bees absolutely love it and will flock to it. It has greater resistance to mildew compared with other varieties. It performs best in full sun or partial shade in a humus-rich, reasonably fertile, well drained soil that retains some moisture.
