Nepeta × faassenii ‘Kit Cat’ in full bloom is a handsome sight: upright spikes densely packed with intense lavender-blue flowers over neat, aromatic grey-green foliage. Despite its compact, rounded form it flowers almost continuously from May through to September — cut back faded spikes hard to encourage fresh growth.
Superb for edging a path or raised bed, and a particularly useful alternative to lavender in more exposed or colder situations where Lavandula may struggle to overwinter. Where space is tight, it thrives in a sunny windowbox, attracting bees and butterflies throughout summer. Best in light, free-draining soil in sun or partial shade.
