Bred by Malcolm Spencer and launched by Hardy's at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2013, 'Summer Magic' is a compact, free-flowering catmint with a very long season. Branching stems carry wonderful lavender-blue flowers from early summer through to autumn, and its neat, upright habit means it holds itself well without flopping — making it an excellent edging plant or a candidate for container growing.
It would make an ideal substitute for a lavender hedge in soils where lavender does not thrive, and its generous supply of nectar makes it a magnet for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators throughout the season. It performs well in any reasonable, free-draining soil in full sun. Cut back occasionally during the growing season to encourage repeat flowering.
