'Six Hills Giant' is one of the great stalwarts of the herbaceous border — a vigorous, clump-forming catmint with aromatic grey-green foliage and tall spikes of lavender-blue flowers throughout summer. It holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit and has earned its place in gardens for decades. At 90cm it is one of the larger catmints, and it is best planted where neighbouring shrubs or perennials can offer some support.
It is tolerant of a wide range of soils, including clay, and performs well in sun or partial shade. Bees and butterflies find it irresistible; occasional deadheading will keep the flowers coming. Cut back to around 10cm in mid-September and it will regrow a good leafy clump for winter.
