Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
This clump-forming herbaceous perennial is native to Japanese mountains and upland slopes. Above a base of feathery foliage, erect branching stems carry dense umbels of white star-shaped flowers in late summer and autumn. Stoloniferous in habit, it spreads to form clumps up to 100cm across. Rarely seen in cultivation, it is loved by bees and other pollinators, and thrives in any moist but well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Large clumps can be divided in spring. Fully hardy in the UK, Patrinia villosa is ideal for prairie-style plantings as well as informal cottage and wildlife gardens.
