Penstemon heterophyllus 'Catherine de la Mare' is a low-spreading semi-evergreen perennial with slender, blue-green linear foliage. Throughout summer it produces a succession of gorgeous bell-shaped tubular flowers in a beautiful blend of blue and purple.
Do not be tempted to cut this perennial down before winter — leave the top growth to protect it. In spring, after the last frosts have passed, cut the plant back hard. Versatile and easy to place, it thrives in gravel gardens, coastal settings, and rockeries. When planting in borders, choose a sunny, sheltered spot with free-draining soil to help it flourish.
