An extremely popular perennial, Penstemon 'King George V' bears very large, scarlet, bell-shaped flowers with sensational maroon-striped white throats. Comparatively wide, linear, glossy foliage covers the stems beneath the flower panicles.
A fabulous choice for borders and containers, it looks phenomenal in a hot border where its striking scarlet blooms last into autumn. Bees and butterflies go mad for it. It prefers a sunny, sheltered spot in fertile, free-draining, moisture-retentive soil. Leave the top growth on over winter to help protect this tender perennial, then cut back hard in spring once the last frosts have passed.
H3 — hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK (-5°C to -10°C).
