Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
'Newbury Gem' is a semi-evergreen bushy perennial with scarlet-red bell-shaped flowers and a white and red-streaked throat, flowering throughout summer. Lance-shaped, glossy green foliage covers the upright stems.
Deadhead as the flowers fade to encourage further blooms. Leave the top growth on over winter to protect this slightly tender perennial, then cut the plant back hard in spring after the last frosts. Softwood cuttings can be taken during summer. Happy in any reasonably fertile, moisture-retentive, free-draining soil in sun or dappled shade. A superb plant for smaller gardens, cottage borders, and courtyard plantings, providing colour over a prolonged season.
