'Rich Ruby' has fabulous ruby-red flowers during the summer with contrasting yellow stamens within the burgundy throat. Fresh, glossy, lance-shaped green leaves cover the upright stems of this clump-forming perennial. Commonly known as Beardtongue, it will attract bees and other pollinators into your garden.
Keep deadheading as the flowers fade to encourage more blooms. Do not be tempted to cut this perennial down before winter — leave the top growth to protect it. In spring, after the last frosts have passed, cut the plant back hard. Softwood cuttings can be taken during summer. Happy in any fertile, moisture-retentive, free-draining soil, in sun or partial shade.
