Penstemon 'Sour Grapes' has two-lipped tubular flowers in an intriguing blend of purples and blues, with a pure white throat streaked with purple. True to its name, the buds are held in grape-like bunches. Luscious green, lance-shaped foliage covers the upright stems, which bear stunning blooms throughout summer and into autumn.
Penstemons perform at their best in full sun or dappled shade in fertile, well-drained, moisture-retentive soil. Softwood cuttings can be taken in early spring. Cut back after the last spring frosts. Hardy throughout most of the UK, tolerating temperatures down to -10°C (H4).
