Peucedanum rablense forms a low tuft of finely cut, bright green, carrot-like foliage from which tall, branched stems rise to 60–70cm, bearing large, intricate umbels of creamy-white flowers from July to September. Delicate and airy in effect, it is a superb plant for lightening heavier perennials in a mixed border.
Native to the Italian Alps and found naturally on sunny limestone slopes, it thrives in well-drained, not too rich, calcareous soil in full sun. Excellent in a rockery, gravel garden or at the front of a naturalistic border. Highly attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Fully hardy and largely carefree once established. Deciduous — the foliage dies back in winter and re-emerges in spring. May self-seed in light, free-draining soils.
