Phlomoides tuberosa 'Amazone'

A robust clump-forming sage-leaf mullein with striking dark purple stems and large, pointed, deep green leaves. Dense whorls of hooded lilac flowers appear on tall upright stems during summer, attracting pollinators throughout the season.

The seedheads that follow are every bit as ornamental as the flowers — architectural in form and particularly beautiful when frosted. An excellent choice for drought-tolerant planting schemes, gravel gardens, and coastal situations where salt-laden air would trouble less resilient plants. Grow in sun or partial shade in well-drained soil.
