'Lady in Red' is a deciduous Ninebark shrub bearing clusters of dainty pink flowers in early summer. The real star, though, is the foliage — three-lobed leaves with toothed margins emerge a rich red before deepening to bronze-red as the season progresses, carried on vivid red stems that add to the drama.
Versatile and low-maintenance, it suits hedging, screening or as a bold specimen in a mixed border. It thrives in sun but tolerates partial shade and copes with most reasonable soils. Prune after flowering to encourage the following season's display, or in winter to maintain shape.
