Primula vialii

Commonly known as Vial's Primrose, this fire-cracker of a perennial has gorgeous red buds which blast open (bottom to top), revealing small lilac flower spikes. These fancy blooms appear in early summer over rosettes of oblong-shaped green foliage. Primula vialii is a native to China.

This Primrose brings a burst of colour to partially shady locations such as woodland gardens, and loves moist soils. Cut back the main flower spike during the summer. Propagate by division during early spring or by collecting seed.
