Pseudodictamnus acetabulosus — also known as Ballota acetabulosa — is a bushy, evergreen subshrub forming a mat of upright, white-felted stems clothed in paired, rounded, softly hairy grey-green leaves. The felted texture gives it a sculptural, almost tactile quality that earns it a place in the garden even before it flowers. In late summer, small pink blooms appear in whorls towards the stem tips, adding a delicate seasonal flourish.
A plant that thrives on neglect, it is at its best in poor, dry, well-drained soil in full sun — an excellent choice for gravel and Mediterranean-style gardens, raised beds, or the front of a sunny border. Reliably drought-tolerant once established. Cut back flowered shoots to within 1.5–2.5cm of the previous year’s growth in mid to late spring.
