Pulmonaria 'Cotton Cool'

Pulmonaria ‘Cotton Cool’ is a neat, semi-evergreen perennial forming a compact clump of rather upright, narrow leaves — strikingly silvered and finely edged with dark green. In spring, sprays of funnel-shaped flowers open pink before ageing to blue, creating a charming two-tone effect as the season progresses.

Commonly known as Lungwort, Pulmonaria is an excellent choice for shaded and sheltered spots — like many woodland plants, they appreciate a cool root zone, and a position in shade combined with humus-rich, moisture-retentive soil will help to achieve this. ‘Cotton Cool’ has shown excellent mildew resistance — a real bonus for a genus that can be prone to this in drier conditions. It works beautifully at the front of a woodland border or beneath deciduous shrubs, and is a valuable early source of nectar for bumblebees. If growing in a container, root prune when the plant becomes pot-bound to keep it performing well in warmer weather.
