Salvia microphylla ‘Cerro Potosí’ is a charming shrubby evergreen salvia, bearing vibrant magenta-pink flowers over neat, scented, light green foliage from midsummer well into late autumn.
Native to Mexico, it is tough and drought tolerant once established, performing best in a fairly fertile, free-draining soil in full sun. Plant it to draw the eye at the front of a border — perhaps combined with Agastache ‘Blue Boa’, Nepeta grandiflora ‘Dawn to Dusk’ and Scabiosa africana ‘Jocelyn’ for a striking long-season display. It is equally at home in a container on a hot, sunny terrace or in a coastal garden, where it copes well with salt air. Growing it in a pot also makes it straightforward to bring under cover during hard winters. Bees and butterflies love it.
