Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.

Originating in the Mediterranean, this superb Salvia has downy leaves and stems. White flowers that take on a lavender hue as the season progresses emerge from long racemes of purple calyces, and the lanceolate foliage is aromatic.

Drought resistant and impressive from June into late autumn, it must be grown in very free-draining soil. Usually hardy in sheltered conditions, it will need winter protection if exposed to frost or cold winds. Deadhead spent racemes to prolong flowering. In winter, reduce the height to 30–60cm to avoid wind rock — do not cut lower. Mulch around the base but leave old growth in place until new stems are establishing and all risk of frost has passed. It can be pruned lightly in late May to improve its shape. In containers, move to a bright, frost-free environment to overwinter.

A versatile plant well suited to prairie, coastal, cottage, and exotic planting schemes, as well as wildlife and sensory gardens.

H3 — hardy in mild areas of the UK (-5°C to -10°C).
