Commonly known as Bog Sage, Salvia uliginosa is a tall, graceful perennial that produces short spikes of the clearest sky-blue flowers on branching, mostly naked stems above slightly leathery, pointed green leaves. Naturally found in the damp grasslands of South America, it flowers with generous abandon from summer well into autumn.
It is ideal for the back of a moist but sunny border, where it sways beautifully in the breeze and looks quite magnificent combined with warm oranges, deep burgundies and clear yellows. Half hardy, in colder areas a layer of mulch applied over winter will protect the underground shoots until spring. It grows best in reasonably rich, moist soil that does not dry out in summer, in full sun or part shade. RHS Award of Garden Merit. 100% peat free.
