This compact, bushy Salvia has densely packed flower spikes with small, vivid blue flowers and purple bracts over triangular, sage-scented green leaves. Low maintenance and very hardy, it is much beloved by bees. Remove faded flower spikes to encourage further flowering.
Grown for the intense blue of its long-lasting flowers, it looks fabulous planted in groups towards the front of a border, where it will draw the eye and add vertical structure. It also works beautifully in containers around a favourite sunny bench, where you can enjoy its scent alongside its vibrant display. An iconic cottage garden plant, it performs best in any thin, reasonably fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
