Umbels of soft pink flowers open from cream buds in early summer, set against finely dissected, near-black foliage — a striking combination of flower and leaf. In autumn, the foliage turns a rich red.
Adaptable to a range of planting conditions, Sambucus 'Eva' suits many garden styles and adds impressive texture and contrast at the back of a border. Cut hard to ground level in early spring to obtain the best foliage colour. This deciduous shrub thrives in any fairly fertile, free-draining soil with some moisture, in full sun or partial shade.
Blackish-purple elderberries may follow the flowers, though this is primarily an ornamental cultivar.
