Saponaria officinalis ‘Rosea Plena’ — Soapwort — bears strongly scented, double rose-pink flowers in clusters on Dianthus-like stems with narrow, pale green foliage. A classic cottage garden plant, it flowers prolifically from midsummer through autumn, adding delicious scent to the front of a border or wildflower area.
Alternatively, plant it in containers around a terrace or favourite bench where you can fully appreciate the flower and fragrance combination. Good for cutting and drying, and loved by bees and butterflies too. After flowering, trim back hard to a neat shape to encourage a second flush.
Grows in any well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
Harmful if eaten.
