Scabiosa caucasica 'Fama Deep Blue'

Large, deep blue, ruffled flowerheads with centres of tightly packed pinhead flowers gently wave on slender stems above mounds of deeply divided green foliage. Tall and intensely coloured, this scabious really draws the eye — whether woven in drifts through a border or combined with grasses in a prairie-style planting.

Much beloved of bees and butterflies, it also makes a fabulous addition to a flower meadow or cut flower garden. For a subtle combination, mix with purples, whites, apricots and pinks; for more contrast, try reds, yellows and oranges. ‘Fama Deep Blue’ performs best in an alkaline to neutral, free-draining soil that is reasonably fertile and does not sit wet in winter. It is well suited to chalky soils.
