'Leaflet' in common with other forms of Symphyotrichum turbinellum is one of the late season stalwarts of the garden. Long flowering and floriferous, its lavender blue starry flowers start to open in September highlighted by dark multi-branching stems and build to a hazy crescendo in October, the gentle colour accentuated by the soft light.
Sharing the same open habit and scale as S. turbinellum, the difference lies in the foliage with finer more pointed leaves. As you would expect form a 'prairie aster' its naturalistic good looks mix beautifully with ornamental grasses such as Miscanthus and Calamagrostis and the arching form of Solidago rugosa 'Fireworks'. It is equally stunning in a sunny or lightly shaded border, its delicate single flowers drawing the bees in. It prefers a fertile, free draining soil.
