An easy to grow, resilient herbaceous perennial for a sunny spot, this Verbena is highly attractive to bees, butterflies, moths and other pollinators as its flowers are rich with nectar.
The tall, slim stems have rough textured narrow leaves and many branching heads of purple flowers which makes it ideal for the middle or back of the border. Best in full sun, it needs moist but well drained soil, but becomes drought tolerant once established. It is also hardy down to -15 degrees Celsius.
Flowering from July to September, or beyond if the conditions remain favourable. You could cut back spent stems,however, if left in place the stems will be clothed in attractive seed heads which could provide a source of food for birds later in the year. Divide in spring as necessary.
Ideal for coastal, cottage, informal, prairie and gravel gardens as well as beds and borders.
