Veronicastrum virginicum, commonly known as Culver's Root, is one of the most useful plants for adding height to a late-summer border. 'Fascination' produces tall, erect stems with whorls of lanceolate, toothed green leaves, topped in late summer with slender lilac flower spikes that attract masses of pollinators. The stems can occasionally appear flattened or fasciated in form — this is quite normal for this cultivar and part of its character.
It is happy in sun or partial shade in reasonably good soil. When clumps become congested, divide in spring to reinvigorate.
