Viola cornuta 'Alba Minor' — the Horned Violet — takes its name from the distinctive spur, or horn, at the back of each flower, within which the nectar is held. A neat and compact, spreading evergreen perennial, it produces masses of small, fragrant pure white flowers from spring right through to autumn — a remarkably long flowering season that makes it a valuable and reliable presence in the garden.
The fresh green foliage forms tidy mounds, providing useful weed-suppressing ground cover amongst emerging perennials — particularly effective weaving between hostas and other shade-tolerant plants in the early season. Equally at home in containers or at the front of a border. Thrives in moist but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Like many violas, it self-seeds gently, quietly increasing over time.
A trim after the main flush of flowering will keep the plant tidy and encourage further blooms.
