Achillea — Yarrow — is a genus of around 100 species of woody-based perennials native to the northern hemisphere, some clump-forming, others spreading slowly by running roots. Flat-topped flowerheads in a wide range of colours — from white and cream through yellow, pink, and deep red — are held on upright stems above aromatic, feathery foliage that may be green or silvery grey depending on the species. If cut back after the first flush of flowers, many will repeat-flower later in the season.

Thriving in full sun in moisture-retentive but free-draining soil, Achillea is drought tolerant once established, they dislikes heavy, wet clay over winter. Divide clumps every three to four years to keep plants vigorous and free-flowering. Outstanding for pollinators, the flat flowerheads are a magnet for bees and butterflies throughout summer.

A natural choice for prairie, gravel, and cottage garden planting. Combines beautifully with Salvia, Echinacea, Stipa, and Penstemon.
