Description

Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna'

Height x Spread: 45cm x 45cm

'Caradonna' carries spikes of striking violet blue flowers on purple black stems above sage scented, slightly coarse, oval green leaves. The colour combination of this perennial is simply gorgeous, the dark stems adding depth and intensity to the flowers. Widely used by designers for its impact and versatility in a planting scheme, it will flower its socks off all summer into autumn.

An obvious candidate for underplanting roses, we also like it combined with grasses like Anemanthele lessioniana or Stipa tenuissima. It associates well with bright reds, oranges and lime greens. A veritable bee magnet. Once settled in, 'Caradonna' is drought tolerant, but performs best in a light, fairly rich, moist but free draining soil. Best in the sun, although partial shade can be tolerated.
