Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Kokuryū'

Interesting dark purple, evergreen grass-like foliage. As the leathery foliage matures, the leaves gets darker in colour. Spikes of insignificant small purplish flowers appear during early summer, these are followed by small clusters of black berries. Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Kokuryū' is commonly known as Black Mondo Grass.
It is at its happiest when planted in moist soil and partial shade, although it will tolerate both drier and sunnier sites . It can be used in a number of situations such as under-planting trees and shrubs, or as edging along a border, equally it can be combined with other plants to create contrast within a winter planter.
