Silene flos-cuculi
Height x Spread: 40cm x 40cm
With its shock of unruly pink petals, the star-shaped flowers of 'Ragged Robin' gently weave around in the air on slim branching stems. Surely one of the prettiest wildflowers around, it flowers its socks off from late spring into summer, before forming attractive seedheads full of rattling seeds.
Naturally found in moist meadow land, it will happily hold its own and naturalise in damper grassy areas, forming drifts that will wander lazily from year to year. Perfect too for a wildlife garden with moist soil, attracting bees in their droves. Try planting it with Geum rivale 'Cream Drop' and Lythrum salicaria 'Feuerkerze' for a striking combination. To thrive it needs a sunny or partially shaded spot in damp, relatively fertile soil.
