Astilbe 'Bressingham Beauty' (× _arendsii_)
Height x spread: 90cm x 90cm
One of the larger forms, Astilbe’ Bressingham Beauty’, has tall stems of mid pink flowers held over green leaves which are often flushed with bronze. If you allow the flowers to dry they will fade to a pale toffee colour later in the season. Alternately they can be removed at the base after the flowers have faded.
Attractive to butterflies, but of little to no interest for deer and rabbits this plant will enhance a wildlife garden as long as it is placed in a shadier spot which has consistent moisture. A layer of rich organic mulch applied around the plant in Spring will be very helpful in keeping this plant happy. Not a fan of becoming congested, lift and divide it every four years or so to ensure the maximum show of spectacular flowers.
This is a plant of many uses and can be incorporated into shade, woodland, wildlife and informal cottage schemes with ease. The stems can be used as cut flowers to dramatic effect. It looks great paired with Ferms, Hostas, Thalictrums and other shade lowers
