Baptisia 'Dutch Chocolate' (Decadence Series)
Height x Spread: 90cm x 50cm
Spikes of rich chocolatey-purple with a flash of yellow flowers from late spring to early summer, followed by attractive seed pods in autumn that blacken in winter. The delicate clover shaped foliage on branching stems give away its membership of the pea family and is very useful for adding interest to the garden from spring through to autumn.
Preferring a fairly fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny site, once established this glamorous addition to the border can become drought resistant. Bred to be more compact than other forms, it has wide appeal suiting more formal city and courtyard gardens as well as relaxed styles such as cottage and prairie planting.
