Cuphea 'David Verity'
Height x Spread: 90cm x 50cm
Hailing from Mexico the Cuphea is, in hotter climates, a year-round producer of nectar rich flowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. In the UK it is an evergreen tender perennial, which can be grown in a container or planted outside as an annual.
Cuphea ‘David Verity’ is a US garden hybrid with a compact branching habit. It has 2cm long orange-red tubular flowers on deep red stems, with mid green, lance shaped foliage. It flowers through the Summer to the first frosts.
Give it full sun and well-drained soil of any pH. If grown in containers it can be moved to a bright, frost free site to over Winter. A conservatory would be ideal. Prune, if necessary to maintain shape, in Spring.
The appearance of this plant makes it ideal for inclusion in Jungle or Tropical style gardens as well as city, courtyard, coastal, informal and cottage garden styles. Its ability to thrive in the heat make it ideal for growing in front of south facing walls or fences.
