Dierama igneum
Height x Spread: 45cm x 20cm
Coral-red bell flowers swing gently from slender arching stems over tufted grass-like foliage. Its common names 'fairy bells', 'harebells' and 'wand flowers' relate beautifully the delicacy of this shorter Dierama, but it is a tough customer too.
Hailing from South Africa, this hard to find perennial looks wonderful planted in large drifts, particularly overhanging water, displaying its dainty reflection. Suitable for the border or a container too, it does not want to dry out in the summer, nor become waterlogged in the winter. It grows best in any fertile, moist but free draining soil in full sun or part shade.
