Fritillaria thunbergii
Height x Spread: 55cm x 30cm
An interesting member of the Fritillaria genus, it produces delicate nodding flowers, pale straw yellow with a green chequerboard pattern externally, the design being repeated internally in red. These are held on tall stems, with pale green leaves that twine around their neighbours to gain support and height.
Widely found throughout Japan, it thrives in a moist humus rich soil in partial shade, but can cope with more sun too. Its naturalistic form is perfect for a woodland garden, but also looks delightful planted beneath deciduous shrubs and trees.
