Patrinia gibbosa
Height x Spread: 50cm x 50cm
This herbaceous perennial from Japan forms a statuesque display of heavily branched flower heads above a basal rosette of ovate, jagged edged leaves which change from green to red and yellow tones in autumn. From late spring to late summer sprays of scented, sulphur yellow flowers are produced in clusters that later become attractive seed heads.
Best in any moist but well drained soil in shade or partial shade, this plant is a magnet for butterflies when the flowers open.
Ideal for informal, cottage, woodland and wildlife gardens as well as beds and borders. Can also be used as under planting for roses.
Cut back stems after flowering.
