Helenium is commonly known as Sneezeweed. 'Fuego' which is relatively short, produces masses of daisy-like flowers, the red petals are edged with yellow and surround a brown central cone. This is a relatively new introduction bred by Arie Blom in the Netherlands it really packs a big punch when it comes to colour, flowering from late-summer and lasting well into the autumn.
South-facing borders are perfect for Heleniums which thrive in moisture-retentive but free-draining soils and full sun. 'Fuego' has a high tolerance to salt spray making it perfect for costal locations. Divide every few years in either autumn or spring to maintain plant vigour.
