Helenium autumnale 'Ranchera' PBR (Mariachi Series)
Height x Spread: 50cm x 50cm
What this form of 'sneezeweed' lacks in height compared with its loftier cousins, it more than makes up for in terms of late summer floral display. Boasting masses of deep red daisy-like flowers each with ruffled skirt-like petals that circle a raised central cone, 'Ranchera' is part of the recently introduced 'Mariachi' series. As summer progresses the bold cone transforms from its initial hot red to golden yellow as the tiny flowers that form it slowly open.
Beloved by bees, butterflies and other pollinators, it works well in prairie and cottage garden style planting schemes. Its strong floral performance makes it ideal for a 'hot' themed sunny planter or border and even a cutting garden as the flowers last well in water. A wonderfully versatile hue for the garden, it combines well with pale pinks, deep purples, oranges and golden yellows plus ornamental grasses such as Molinia. For the best results grow in full sun in a fertile, good soil.
